J.J. Abrams has a new series in development called Alcatraz. It revolves around some prisoners that disappeared from Alcatraz 30 years ago, and reappear in current time. It’s a fascinating premise for a show and Abrams is just the man who could make it work.

Sarah Jones from Sons of Anarchy and Big Love has been cast to play a police officer that’s somewhat obsessed with the case. Lost veteran Jorge Garcia will be in the role of an expert on the historic island prison. This one sounds like a series to look forward to. [Source: OMG!]

Southland, TNT network’s gritty Los Angeles police drama will be back with ten new episodes when its third season premieres on Tuesday, January 4 at 10/9c. When the show returns, Regina King’s character, Detective Lydia Adams will have a new partner played by veteran actor Jenny Gago. The character will bring a determination and a Latin culture with her that will give Det. Adams a new perpestive on her job.

Gago brings a long history of credits in dramas on television and the big screen including roles in movies Coach Carter, Under Fire and Nurse Betty as well as her recurring roles on Dallas and Knots Landing and guest roles on The West Wing, Lost, 24, and The Closer. Sounds like a great show may have just become even better. [Source: TV Guide]

Law & Order: SVU fans will be seeing guest star Jeremy Irons playing a sex therapist in charge of a sex addiction clinic. Irons is both an Oscar and an Emmy Award winner and should lend his considerable talent and experience to his part on the show. It’s not been stated, but anyone who watches the show can guess that Irons’ character may be the perp of the week when the episode airs in early 2011. What great casting. [Source: Associated Press]

Another Law & Order: SVU guest star to look forward to is Taryn Manning who is known for her roles as Steve Garrett’s younger sister on Hawaii Five-O. She’ll be in the role of a woman with a shameful past where she was a reluctant part of the porn scene. [Source: TV Guide]
